A brief history of Angostura Dam

Body ORAL – Later this summer, Angostura Dam will celebrate 80 years when construction first began on the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation project, located on the Cheyenne River, about six miles as the crow flies from Hot Springs.

Ground breaking held for FRHS’s Cascade Hills Subdivision

Body HOT SPRINGS – Ground was officially broken on the new Cascade Hills Subdivision, located within the city limits of Hot Springs and near Fall River Health Services (FRHS) on Highway 71 (Cascade Road).

Irrigation District temporarily shuts down main canal to conserve water

Body ORAL – For the first time in recent history (and possibly ever), the Angostura Irrigation District has temporarily shut down the main canal as a way to conserve water for its customers.

Angostura Dam concrete repair project resumes, potentially ahead of schedule

Body HOT SPRINGS – A $10.4 million construction project to repair the nearly 80-year-old concrete face of Angostura Dam is once again underway and potentially ahead of schedule, thanks to mostly favorable conditions so far this spring.

St. Luke’s Church stained glass receives much needed repairs

Body HOT SPRINGS ¬– Over the past week, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hot Springs has undergone some beautifying and protective work on their massive Masonic stainedglass window, which was originally installed in 1901, measuring 10 feet wide by 15 feet high.

Body HOT SPRINGS — Logan Brown of the State’s Wildland Fire agency gave a presentation last month on May 13 to County residents about “what they can do ahead of a wildfire” to protect their homes and themselves.

Hot Springs native will help kickoff Rockin’ Riverside Summer Concert Series, May 30

Body HOT SPRINGS – This Saturday, May 30, the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce will kick-off it’s second annual Rockin’ Riverside Summer concert series with the Lonely Rangers, featuring Hot Springs native Ross Johnson.

Sidewalk flaw now fixed

Body HOT SPRINGS – A long-awaited project on the north end of the suspended sidewalk along North River Street in downtown recently wrapped up, just in time for the summer season.

Body HOT SPRINGS – K Eugene Walker was born in the Canyon Cottages on the grounds of the State Soldier’s Home (now known as the State Veteran’s Home) in July 1933 and now is a resident.
