Publisher’s Note: On Monday afternoon, Jan. 27, Garland submitted this story as her weekly contribution to the Fall River County Herald-Star. However, due to space in last week’s Jan. 30 edition, we were unable to publish it. Following last Tuesday’s tragic auto accident which claimed her life, this and another story being published this week about poetry will sadly be her final school article contributions to our newspaper. While we will no longer be able to publish stories written by Garland, the impact she has made on our newspaper will be forever. May you rest in peace, Garland.
EDGEMONT – Edgemont Middle School is buzzing with excitement as students unveil their latest creative endeavor: a school podcast. Part of the exploratory courses program, the podcast allows students to dive into topics of their choice, giving them a platform to share ideas and innovatively connect with the school community.
The journey began with a brainstorming session, during which students pitched and voted on potential names for their podcast. After much deliberation, the winning name emerged: Mogul Message, a nod to the school mascot and the students’ desire to make their voices heard.
Once the name was chosen, students rolled up their sleeves to bring their vision to life. They collaborated to design a striking logo and craft a captivating podcast description that would entice listeners. Then, they got to work planning the content and outlining various segments to ensure the show offered something for everyone in the community.
The Mogul Message delivers an engaging mix of content that captures the energy, achievements, and stories of the Edgemont school community. Expect to stay updated with standout moments from Edgemont’s athletic teams and from the players themselves. Each week, students will also feature alumni stories in which listeners can expect to be inspired by graduates who have gone on to make a difference. There will also be community spotlights in which the listener can discover the unique qualities that make Edgemont one of a kind. Each episode will also feature the “Mogul Minute,” where listeners will test their knowledge with fun and surprising facts.
“It is really fun and cool,” explains seventh grader Keegan Mower. “It is exciting to interview other people.” Mower, along with his classmates, has created a podcast that’s not only informative but also entertaining and inclusive. Whether you’re a sports fan, a trivia enthusiast, or curious about the vibrant Edgemont community, The Mogul Message has something for you.
Podcasting offers students unique opportunities to develop essential skills while fostering creativity and confidence. It enhances communication, teamwork, and critical thinking as students collaborate to research, produce, and share content. By engaging with digital tools and storytelling techniques, they gain real-world experience in media production and time management. Podcasting also strengthens community connections and empowers students to explore their interests, express their perspectives, and build a lifelong love of learning.
