Irrigators edge Lady Moguls

NEWELL – The Edgemont Lady Moguls basketball team lost a close contest in Newell last Friday, Feb. 2, as they fell to the Lady Irrigators by a score of 31-35.

Edgemont was up 21-17 at halftime despite falling behind early in the game. The third quarter however proved to be the team’s downfall as they were outscored 2-10 before ultimately losing by just two points.

“We had a slow first quarter. The second quarter we came out strong and finish good,” said Edgemont head coach Lathen Stevens. “We had some big shots from Katelyn Lauristen and never gave up; we just didn’t have some shots fall.”

Lauritsen, a junior, led the team in scoring with nine points, all of which were scored from three-point range as she went 3-for-8 from downtown. She also had six rebounds, one assist and one steal. Fellow juniors Hadley Hollenbeck scored seven points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, while Tavian Urban scored two points but also had five rebounds, six assists and five steals. Senior Addison Neville had six points and eight rebounds.

This week, Edgmont (8-8) hosted Hulett, Wyo. (3-5) on Tuesday, Feb. 6 and travels to Oelrichs (5-11) on Friday, Feb. 9.
