July 14, 1947 - April 18, 2026
Steven Roger DeBoer, 78, of Hot Springs, S.D., passed away April 18, 2026. Steve was born July 14, 1947 in Lincoln, Neb., to Donald and Joyce (Everson) DeBoer.
Steve lived a life full of hard work, humor, and love for his family. He studied biology at Chadron State before spending years farming with his dad, Donald DeBoer, in Oral, S.D. Later, Steve moved his family to Oregon, where he sold large farm equipment. But home had a way of calling him back, and about ten years later he returned to South Dakota to help on the farm again. In time, he started Steve’s Spot Spray Service, where he took pride in helping people keep their land in good shape—getting rid of plenty of stubborn weeds along the way.
Steve loved being outdoors, whether he was hunting or fishing. He was always coming up with a new “get rich quick” idea and never passed up the chance to tease or give someone a hard time. That sense of humor is something his family and friends will never forget. On June 23, 1969, he married Sharon Opal Nighswonger, and together they had two daughters.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Donald Keith DeBoer; mother, Genevieve Joyce Anderson; and brother, Craig DeBoer. He is survived by his daughters, Lynna Foster and Leah Benford (Eddie); grandchildren, Logan (Sarah) Foster, Austin Benford, Maya Benford, Preston Benford, and Caden Foster; and great-grandchildren, Fiver and Maven Foster.
Steve will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, and the way he could make people laugh. He’ll be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
