Stanley Bruce Rennard, 80, a lifelong resident of Mule Creek Junction, passed away at the Weston County Manor in Newcastle Wyoming on May 27, 2026, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born March 19, 1946, in Lusk Wyoming, to Samuel and Vivian Rennard. He attended Cheyenne River Grade School, graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1964, and later attended an auto mechanics trade school in Denver.
Stan married Marlene Black in 1970, and together they raised two children on the Rennard family ranch near Mule Creek Junction. Jennifer Jo was born in 1973, and Tye Brian in 1977. Tye was killed in an accident near the Cheyenne River School in 1985.
While ranching, Stan built his own cow herd, became involved in Holistic Range Management, and purchased the Porcupine Forest allotment in the Black Hills. He took great pride in land stewardship and enjoyed all aspects of ranching, especially trailing cattle home each fall and spring branding.
Stan enjoyed roping, playing pool, and visiting with neighbors. He spent many years with the Niobrara County Roping Club and was a regular at Mule Creek Junction community gatherings. He was also an avid pool player, competing throughout South Dakota.
A dedicated volunteer, Stan supported 4-H, especially horse projects, and was in the Legend of Rawhide, serving in numerous roles. Stan was always willing to help on rural fires.
Stan is survived by his sisters, Cheryll Christianson and Carol Sutherland; daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Boe Kottwitz; grandchildren, Peyton and Abby Kottwitz; and many family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Vivian Rennard; son, Tye Rennard; and brother-in-law, Carl Christianson.
A memorial fund will be established in his name, with contributions directed toward improvements benefiting the 4-H horse program at the fairgrounds.
