August 11, 1948 - April 10, 2025

Gordon Melvin Forbord passed away on April 10, 2025, in New River, Arizona, at the age of 76.

Gordon was born on August 11, 1948, in Sisseton, South Dakota, to Ethel Jane Swayze and Melvin Parelius Forbord.

From an early age, he demonstrated a strong sense of duty and service, which led him to proudly serve his country as a Flight Operations Specialist in the United States Army. During his time in the military, Gordon was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in May 1974.

On December 19, 1971, Gordon married Kathryn Jo Eckholt in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Together, they built a life full of love and adventure, raising four children—Angela Faith, Jodi Rebecca, James Gordon, and Yvonne Kathryn—and making homes in several states across the country, including Wyoming, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, California, and South Dakota.

Gordon had a passion for fixing things and a love for the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed gardening, searching for unique coins to add to his collection, tending to his chickens, and spending quiet time at home.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ethel; three siblings, Clayton Swayze, Calvin Swayze, and Florence Anderson; and his first and third wives, Kathryn and Norma.

Gordon is survived by his two sisters, Mary Lou Anderson and Sandra Hall; his second and fourth wives, Cynthia and Jean; his beloved children, Angie Knepel (Craig Loomis), Jodi (Billy Sides III), James (Pam) Forbord, and Yvonne Clyde, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of resilience, curiosity, and love.

Gordon will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His steady presence, quiet strength, and genuine kindness leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of his family and friends.
