With great sadness we announce that Eddie Dean Hunter, at the age of 88, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025. Eddie was born in Sisseton, S.D., March 8, 1936.

Eddie graduated from High School in 1959, from Peever, S.D. Eddie served in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1958 to 1960. After his honorable discharge he married Elaine DeFrance in 1961, in Custer, S.D. They had a very loving marriage for 63 years.

Eddie started his professional career by cutting timber in Custer, then moved to Hot Springs, S.D. in 1962 and worked for numerous companies before moving to Douglas, Wyo., in 1976, where he started his career in uranium and coal mining for 15 years. Eddie retired from the coal mine in Gillette, Wyo., in 1991.

Following his retirement, Eddie and Elaine traveled throughout the United States in their motor home. Also during that time they visited Canada, China, New Zealand and New Mexico. Eddie truly enjoyed this time with his wife and countless friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by his mother, Margate; father, Clarence; and three brothers, Albert, William and Howard.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elaine Hunter; sons, Alex Hunter, and Shawn Hunter; grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Dalton, Hailey, and Nathan; as well as great grandchildren, Penelope and Hadleigh.

Eddie enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and taking cruises with his wife, Elaine. Throughout their 63 years of marriage they visited many family members and met a lot of great people they now call close friends.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m., at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
