Arnold Peter Hald, known best as “Pete”, 93, of Hot Springs, S.D., passed away on June 15, 2026. Pete was born in 1932 fifteen miles west of Oelrichs, S.D. to Carl and Sara Hald. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, serving from 1953 to 1955, much of that time spent in Germany. After the Army he moved back to South Dakota to the family ranch and became a lifelong rancher. In May of 1964 he married Betty Jean Nelson.
Pete was preceded in death by his father, Car; mother, Sara; brothers, Carl Hald, Lyle Hald, Gilford Montgermy and Jack Montgermy; sisters, Olivan Masek, and Rose Willoughby. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Betty Hald; son, Clifford McCormick; grandchild, Kendal (Sarlyn) McCormick; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hald; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Jo-ann Clouse; brother-in-law, Rick Cline, and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Pete’s request no services will be held. Arrangements have been made with Chamberlain McColley’s funeral home in Hot Springs, S.D.
