Ardis J. Harrod was the third child born to Kenneth and Joy Harrod in Gillette, Wyoming on November 14, 1941. In early childhood, Ardis’s family relocated to Edgemont, South Dakota. After graduating from Edgemont High School in 1959, Ardis went to Billings, Montana for secretarial training. She then worked a variety of jobs that took her to California, Nevada and Montana. Eventually, she moved back to South Dakota and started a 30-year career with the Burlington Northern Railroad until her retirement.

Ardis took the opportunity to travel with her mother and sister Irma visiting Hawaii, Mexico, Spain and Morocco. After living many years in Wyoming, Ardis relocated to Rapid City spending her final years closer to her family. Ardis was a cat-loving, spiritual feminist who supported causes close to her heart. She had a generous personality and great sense of humor. She was a good friend, loving sister and aunt.

Ardis passed peacefully on March 13, 2026 at 84 from agerelated illnesses. She was welcomed on the other side by her parents, Kenneth & Joy Harrod; sister and brother-in-law, Loree & Don Darling; and brothers, Dean and Kenny L. Harrod.

She is survived by her sister, Irma Harrod; sister-in-law, Joyce Harrod; nieces, Leah Roberts (Marvin), Nedra Harrod, Dena Harrod, Tina Voth (Del), and Ranee Harrod; nephews, James Darling, Norman Harrod (Tricia), and Darrell Harrod (Tanya); and numerous great nieces and nephews plus one great-great nephew.

Choosing no end-of-life services, Ardis wanted everyone to have a great day, a happy life, and to remember her with joy.
