Judy Lenore Ferguson, 79, of Silt, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2026, with her family by her side.
Born on February 3, 1947, in Edgemont, South Dakota, to Francis and Lenore Peterson, Judy grew up on a ranch alongside her younger brothers. On July 10, 1966, she married the love of her life, George “Cap” Ferguson. Together they shared nearly sixty years of marriage filled with love, laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion.
Judy spent more than twenty years at City Market, where she became known for her kindness, warm smile,and willingness to help others. She loved crafting, decorating, and creating beauty wherever she could. Christmas was her favorite season, and each year she transformed her home into a magical winter wonderland that family and friends eagerly anticipated. During the warmer months, she found joy tending her gardens and outdoor spaces.
Above all else, Judy’s greatest joy was her family. She taught those she loved that kindness, sacrifice, and simply showing up for one another were life’s greatest gifts.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Lenore Peterson; stepfather, Jim Bell; brother, Wayne Peterson; and great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Satterfield.
She is survived by her devoted husband, George “Cap” Ferguson; daughters, Sheila Ferguson Madrigal (Alfonso) and Lynette Satterfield (Jeff); son, Travis Ferguson (Chasity); brother, Bruce Peterson; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 20, 2026, at First Assembly of God in Rifle, Colorado.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Peterson Family Ranch outside Edgemont, S.D., on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Graveside services and interment will follow on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Ridge Cemetery in Ridge, Montana.
