Paul David “Dave” Schott

Body

November 29, 1949 - December 5, 2025

Rev. Paul David “Dave” Schott, 76, passed away on December 5, 2025, at Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Dave’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Seven Sisters. He spent the last weeks of his life, well cared for, safe, and happy.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and minister, Dave lived a life marked by deep faith, warmth, and an enduring love for people.

Born on November 29, 1949, in Gering, Nebraska, Dave was the son of Paul and Ruth Schott. From an early age, he exhibited a spirited personality—gregarious and outgoing—with a heart that would grow to embrace both ministry and family with equal passion.

Dave’s journey through life was one of growth and transformation. In a testament to his dedication to learning and personal development, he returned to school the same year his daughter Cara began high school. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.—a milestone that reflected both his intellectual curiosity and his commitment to better serving others.

A man of unwavering faith, Dave served as an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. His ministry was not defined by perfection but by authenticity. He openly acknowledged his imperfections and mistakes while continually seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. Through this humility and honesty, he gave faithful witness to the grace he preached. Dave found joy in sharing God’s word and walking alongside others in their spiritual journeys.

Dave’s love for people was evident in every aspect of his life. He had a warm smile for everyone he met and a personality that filled any room. Stubborn at times but always tender-hearted, he made lasting impressions on those around him through kindness, humor, and genuine interest in others’ lives.

He also had a playful side—especially when it came to sports. A passionate fan of football and baseball, Dave cheered enthusiastically for the Denver Broncos and the Philadelphia Eagles. Sundays were often spent immersed in fantasy football leagues with friends from church—a tradition that brought him great joy (and occasional bragging rights). And above all else, Dave loved to eat—sharing meals with family or friends was one of his favorite ways to connect.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Melody (Quinn) Schott; daughters, Cara Knutson (and her wife Maja), Miranda Schwartz (and her husband Paul); son, Thomas Paul Schott; and grandchildren, Lena Schwartz, Seth Schwartz, and Derek Knutson. His legacy continues through them—in their laughter, their stories, their faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruth Schott and father-in-law, Thomas Quinn.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on February 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2000 Lancer Drive in Rapid City, S.D.

In honor of Dave’s love for sports—and his fun-loving spirit, attendees are invited to wear their favorite jersey or baseball cap (or both).

Dave’s life was not without its challenges—but it was rich with meaning. He loved deeply, served faithfully, laughed often, forgave freely—and never turned down dessert. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who walk paths of grace after him.
