HOT SPRINGS – The Thanksgiving holiday in Fall River County once again included multiple free-will community feasts, with the granddaddy of them all held at the Hot Springs American Legion, where more than 900 meals were served over a threehour period last Thursday, Nov. 27.

According to the event’s organizers, there were a total of 14 turkeys prepared and served, each weighing in at more than 22 pounds each. Those turkeys were donated by the Fall River County Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, as well as two other community members.

In addition, a total of 118 pounds of ham, 85 pounds of potatoes, 18 gallons of sweet potatoes, 18 gallons green beans were also served, along with a huge amount of stuffing, several dozen dinners rolls, 30 dozen deviled eggs, 12 relish trays and over 80 pies plus many other dessert options.

Following the event, the American Legion posted a thank you on Facebook which read: “The American Legion Family would like to thank the NWTF and the two community members for providing turkeys for the community Thanksgiving meal yesterday, all of the community members and Legion Family members for all of the pies, deserts and breakfast pastries donated. The community and Legion Family volunteers who came in all week and the day of the dinner to prep, serve and clean up. The cooking crew yesterday who made sure we never ran out of food.”

And to the community who came and ate, “Thank You for letting us prepare your holiday meal.”

The community of Edgemont also hosted a pair of free will donation feeds at both the Public Library and at the Senior Citizen’s Center. See page A5 for more on those two events.
