Eugene (Gene) Francis Reecy

Body

January 27, 1936 - September 20, 2025

Eugene (Gene) Francis Reecy, 89, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at Monument Health Custer Hospital in Custer, S.D.

Born on January 27, 1936, in Sioux Falls, S.D., Gene was the son of Joseph J. and Loretta M. Reecy. He joined two older brothers at birth, and later the family lived in Humbolt, S.D. before moving to Clear Lake, where Gene grew up. It was in Clear Lake that he met the love of his life, Agnes Adolph. Their romance endured through the years, and on September 14, 1957, Agnes’s 18th birthday, the two were married. Together, they raised four daughters: Kathleen, Diane, Peggy, and Michelle.

At the age of 18, Gene began what became a lifelong career with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Sioux Falls, where he worked for 44 years, ultimately serving as production manager. He was a dedicated provider who worked tirelessly to ensure his family had everything they needed.

After retirement, Gene and Agnes moved to Edgemont, S.D., eager to enjoy a quieter life. There, they shared countless memories fishing with family, helping with projects at the Stevens Ranch, attending sporting events, school plays, and concerts, traveling back to Sioux Falls to visit loved ones, and spending precious time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Gene was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and love of conversation. Whether with family, friends, or a stranger, he had a gift for making people laugh and feel welcome.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Agnes; daughters, Diane (Randy) Stevens of Edgemont, Peggy Jackson of Charlottesville, Va., and Michelle Reecy (Scott) of Sioux Falls; as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother; two brothers; his daughter, Kathleen; an infant grandson; and a granddaughter.
