Marlene Ruther was called home on the evening of January 13, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Ruther; her parents, Marinus and Ethel Morse; and her sister, Connie May.
Marlene was born on December 20, 1939, in Hardin, Montana, to Marinus and Ethel Morse. When she was still very young, they moved to Sargent, Nebraska, where she grew up around her grandparents, aunts and uncles, and many cousins.
In 1958, she married Gene Ruther. They lived in Bassett, Neb., and then moved to Hot Springs, S.D., on October 1, 1962.
She enjoyed painting pictures; she enjoyed her music and singing in church. Teaching Sunday school and working with kids at church. Ministering to those in need, her love and dedication to the Lord were a factor in everything she was. Marlene loved her family and was the best wife and mother she could be.
Marlene is survived by her two sons, Franklin Ruther of Hot Springs and Timothy Ruther of Marysville, Wash.; daughterin- law, Dena Ruther; daughter, Shirle McClain of Peoria, Ariz.; son in law, Bill McClain; nephews, Greg Ruther, Chuck Ruther, and Marinus May, and niece, Geraldean Walker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Joy Community Fellowship Church.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2025, at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Committal services will follow at the Pringle Cemetery in Pringle, S.D.
