Lyle Joseph Witt, born on March 4, 1955, in Pine Ridge, S.D., to Nathaniel and Philomena (Martinez) Witt, passed away on December 25, 2024, in Sheridan, Wyo. He was the youngest of 17 children.

Lyle’s early education began in Igloo, S.D., until first grade, after which he completed his schooling in Hot Springs, S.D. His career in radiology began while still in high school, working in the VA Radiology Department. In April 1973, Lyle joined the U.S. Navy, becoming a corpsman and receiving additional training in X-rays. He was honorably discharged in March 1977.

Lyle’s first job as a civilian was in Winner, S.D. as an x-ray technician. He retired from the Black Hills VA in 2006 but continued his career as a traveling CT technician, with assignments in places such as Albany, San Francisco, and frequently Hilo, Hawaii.

Lyle was a quick Witt, there wasn’t a person in the world he wouldn’t help from the bottom of his big heart. He was always available to give a fresh perspective on a situation, with an amazing gift to uplift the energy of everyone around him. Telling stories and making friends was Lyle’s superpower. He leaves a legion of friends and coworkers who will greatly miss his generous enduring spirit. Lyle had a passion for travel and playing pool.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Koenig; daughters, Rebecca Roberts and Sara (Jeff) Janis, all of Hot Springs; bonus daughters, Jennifer (Brandon) Vale, Sara (Ron) DeBeaumont, and Angie Dvorak; brothers, Jerome Wayne Witt, and Russell Antoine; and sister, Sandra Witt. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Anthen Murphy, Trey and Lyle Roberts, Aidyn, Delaney, and Brady Janis, Anneliese and Avalon DeBeaumont, and Kiya Brown.

Lyle was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Witt; parents, Nathaniel Witt and Philomena Antoine; brothers, Nathaniel Witt Jr, Lawrence Witt, Francis Witt, Nelson Witt, Sidney Witt, Patrick Witt, James Witt, and William Mesteth; sisters, Eugenia Bettelyoun, Floretta Harter, Rebecca Benton, Mary Ann Witt, and Nora Lou Rabbit.

A visitation was held Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs.

Funeral service was held Friday, January 3, 2025, at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs, followed by a committal service at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
