Joseph “JD” Daniel Myers

Body

July 10, 1998 - December 27, 2025

Joseph “JD” Daniel Myers of Edgemont, S.D., entered the gates of Heaven December 27, 2024.

JD was born July 10, 1998, in Rapid City, S.D. to Paula Laughlin and Jay Myers. JD worked as soon as he could, working at Pine Hills Retirement and then taking a job with Pepsi. While working for Pepsi he was able to enjoy the scenery of the hills as he went on his route, sometimes being in Hot Springs, but also Custer and Hill City. In this job he found best friends in Tim and Mikey and made so many more along the way.

JD had the biggest heart and the biggest smile you had ever seen. He put everyone before himself. He grew up watching his brother derby, and that became a lifelong passion of his. Any time he could watch a derby that is where he was, either in person or streaming it. He was the cheer section for all of his derby friends, they became his second family. He loved his compact class, and he made us proud bringing home that W at the Beatdown in 2023. If he wasn’t participating in something derby related, then he was either fishing, or cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, or the Iowa Hawkeyes. Sports were his thing. He could tell you just about anything you needed to know when it came to demo derby or football or NASCAR.

JD was a lover of life, friends, and family. He met the love of his life, Ashley Schuppan in 2019. Ashley and her daughter Zoie became his world overnight. He enjoyed getting Zoie into the derby world, starting her out in the power wheels class. They would spend hours together working on the cars, or streaming derbies together. He had planned to marry and spend the rest of his life with her, and being the best dad to Zoie, and hopefully more littles.

Losing him rocked not only our world, but the world of all of those who knew him. 26 years with him was simply not enough.

JD is survived by his mother, Paula Laughlin; father, Jay Myers; love of his life, Ashley Schuppan; daughter, Zoie; nrothers, Brad (Jen) Walker, and Corey Andrie; sisters, Melissa Meverden, Jolyn (Tadd) Harder, Samantha Andrie, and Haleigh (Orrin) Stoddard; grandparents, Daryl and Lonny Myers; grandfather, Arvid Iverson; uncles/aunts, Robert (Bob), Shawn, Josh (Brandi), Bob (Mel), Patti (Dean), and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

JD is Preceded in death by his great grandma, Louise Mattas; great grandma, Louise (Jim) Engebretson; grandma, Helen Iverson; grandpa, Walt Harper; aunt, Rhonda Iverson; and brothers, Joseph Reyes and Shannon Walker.
