HOT SPRINGS – The members of P.E.O. Chapter M of Hot Springs recently celebrated with Christie Wilson (pictured on right in photo with PEO Chapter M President Cathy Nelson) of Hot Springs, who is the recipient of an Ann S. Gates South Dakota Scholarship Fund Grant of $3,000. The grant is part of the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education (PCE), which is one of six women’s educational projects supported by P.E.O.
The PCE is a one-time grant given to a selected student who has spent at least 24 consecutive months as a non-student sometime in her adult life. The woman must be within 24 consecutive months of completing her educational goal.
Wilson is employed at Fall River Health Services Clinic and Hospital and Seven Sisters Living Center. She is working toward completion of an associate degree in Health Information Management at Western Dakota Technical College in 2025. The grant will be used for books each semester, school supplies as needed and expenses associated with travel to classes.
P.E.O. also offers an Educational Loan Fund for a high school graduate or equivalent, who is enrolled at an accredited U.S. or Canadian school and is within two years of completing course of study. The female student must be recommended by a local P.E.O. Chapter. In addition, P.E.O. offers a Scholar Award for women pursuing doctoral level degrees and a Star Scholarship for graduating high school seniors. Certain requirements apply to each project.
Chapter M also offers a $500 Centennial Scholarship for senior girls, who may apply by contacting the school career counselor or Sally Park-Hageman of Hot Springs.
Cottey College in Nevada, MO. is a fullyaccredited college operated by P.E.O. and offers four-year and two-year programs. Scholarships are offered through Cottey and local chapters. Female students who are interested in applying for any of these programs may contact Chapter M President Cathy Nelson, 605-745-3073.
