Franklin ‘Harold’ Heiney, 90, of Hot Springs, S.D., passed away February 4, 2024 at home in Hot Springs.

Harold was born April 23, 1933, in Selkirk, Kan. to Wateman and Millie (Moore) Heiney.

Harold received his education from Oklahoma Baptist University and was a Bible Scholar. While studying at OBU he met his future wife, Deloris Wheaton, and they were married December 23, 1953. Harold spent 72 plus years in the ministry to Native Americans in Oklahoma, Montana, South Dakota as well as ministries to Cascade Road Baptist Church and Pine Hills Retirement Community.

He was a Royal Ambassador Camp Leader and he was adopted by the Pine Ridge Grandparents program. He was a Minister of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Harold’s hobbies were more than we can list. He enjoyed photography, cake decorating, canoeing, meat processing, boxing, wrestling, camping and cooking. He was an avid sportsman, blacksmith, tour guide, preacher, carpenter and he was a techy. His passion was sharing his love for the Bible through Bible study and preaching.

Harold was a kind, loving generous man. He was appreciative of every little thing. He will be remembered for his gentle, patient manner and his thankfulness.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Alan) Maughan of Aurora, Colo.; sons, Joel Heiney, and Lawrence (Ann) Heiney of Jenisin, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Tonia Heiney of Williston, N.D.; numerous grand and great-grand children and a host of friends.

Harold is predeceased by his parents, his wife and his son, Fred Heiney.

Visitation will be held fro 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at Pine Hills Retirement Community.
