RED CLOUD – With part of the team still competing for medals at the Belle Fourche Invitational on the same day, several members of the Hot Springs boys and girls wrestling team who were eliminated on the first day in Belle traveled to the Red Cloud Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 27, where they took first place overall out of 11 teams.
“It was fun following the tournament online,” stated Hot Springs head coach Ray Ringstmeyer who remained in Belle Fourche with his other wrestlers. “Huge shoutout to Coach Steinmetz for taking them down on the bus. They wrestled with a lot of fun and aggressiveness, according to Steinmetz. A lot of positives including some confidence and sense of accomplishment came out of that day.”
Led by a total of six individual champions, Hot Springs boys scored a total of 171 points to claim the title, followed by Lakota Tech (133), Custer (127), Rapid City Central (95) and Little Wound (73.5).
First place medalists for the Bison boys included Micah Burchfield (3-0 at 113 pounds), Holden Luper (3-0 at 132 pounds), Gabe Maurer (2-0 at 144 pounds), Jayden White Face (3-0 at 150 pounds), Thor Fish (4-0 at 157 pounds) and Von Mogen-Frankfort (5-0 at 175 pounds).
Other placewinners on the boys’ team who won matches included Dain Alldredge (2-1 for 2nd place at 132 lbs) and Keller Peterson (2-1 at 2nd place at 150 lbs).
Kadlin Humbracht on the Hot Springs girls team also competed in Red Cloud and placed third in the girls 120 pound division with a 1-1 record.
