NEWELL – The Edgemont Moguls boys basketball team had just one game this past week, and it was a good one as they picked up their second win of the season in a 53-47 victory over Newell on their home court.
“What an exciting game,” said Edgemont head coach Gary Darrow. “Newell scored on the first possession of the game. Then we controlled the rest of the first quarter with hot shooting and great rebounding against the bigger Irrigators.”
The Mogul boys were up 1910 at the end of the first quarter and then had a back-and-forth second quarter which ended with Edgemont taking a 29-19 lead at halftime.
“Newell came out of the locker room shooting well and rebounding our missed shots which allowed them to tie the score 33-33 on a deep three at the buzzer,” Coach Darrow said.
Newell continued their run into the fourth quarter and went up 37-43 with 3:12 to go in the game.
“At that time Keaton (Darrow) hit a huge 3-and-1 for a fourpoint play. The next possession, Keaton hit two free throws. Then Chase Alexander hit a three to give us the 46-43 lead with 36 seconds to play. Then another three by Chase and free throws from Keaton gave us the game down the stretch,” Coach Darrow described. “Wow, what a fun game.”
Keaton Darrow led the team in all stats with 32 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block. Sebastian Morse 10 points, 7 rebounds, Chase Alexander 6 points, 8 rebounds, John Heisler 5 points and 6 rebounds, JJ Ostenson 7 rebounds and 2 steals.
This week, the Mogul boys (212) have a pair of games as they hosted Hulett, Wyo., on Tuesday and then travel to Oelrichs (0-12) on Thursday.
