Oelrichs freshman Rueben Looks Twice Jr. was the winner of the Young Warriors with Braids contest in the 15-18 year old category at the 2023 Lakota Nation Invitational in Rapid City. The contest is sponsored by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Tribal Education Agency and Oglala District Councilman Tyler Yellow Boy, shown above with Rueben and his family. Rueben’s hair measured 50 inches long. This is Rueben’s second time winning; he took 1st place at the Boys with Braids conference in California in 2022.
