Reconstruction project update

Body

HOT SPRINGS – This past Monday, Feb. 12, the utility crew working on the downtown Hot Springs Urban Reconstruction project moved from North River Street’s north end back to the National Avenue area to remove sidewalk, curb, and gutter too allow for installation of the new storm sewer pipe to the north. There will be no parallel parking by the Railroad Depot. Twoway traffic will be maintained through this area and flaggers will be used to hold traffic for a minimal time. Three temporary signals will continue to be used at the Minnekahta Avenue and North River Street intersection, only allowing one-way traffic.

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, the parking lot west of Evans Apartments was closed with no access in or out of the lot. The parking lot will reopen on Wednesday, Feb. 21, weather permitting.

Concrete work will continue at the intersection of National Avenue and North River Street. National Avenue will reopen the end of February.

South River Street by the Dip Bridge on 6th Street will remain closed to be constructed and is estimated to be complete the end of February.

Miscellaneous concrete work behind the curb continues on the east side of U.S. Highway 385 from Detroit Avenue to Albany Avenue. Work in this area is weather dependent and is expected to be complete by late March 2024.

Parallel parking is available along the business frontage on North River Street from Jennings Avenue to approximately 700’ south of Minnekahta Avenue.

There is a 10-ft. width restriction on Highway 385 from Minnekahta Avenue to Jennings Avenue for both northbound and southbound traffic until early September 2024. A 10-ft. width restriction is in place on Highway 385 from Jennings Avenue to Detroit Avenue for both northbound and southbound traffic until mid-April 2024. The speed limit for the construction project has been reduced to 25 mph. These restrictions will be strictly enforced and are in place for the safety of the traveling public and the construction workers.

Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
