EDGEMONT -- The Fall River County Herald-Star recently added a reporter to its staff who is based in Edgemont.
Lance Borde comes to Edgemont from Concord, Calif., and says he is eager to report on the news and happenings in his new community.
“Community is the backbone of this country,” he said. “Edgemont, being a small town, can have the feel of a community family. I am a firm believer that the future of America begins right here in your own hometown.”
Borde plans to cover city council and school board meetings, as well as community events. He said he is also looking forward to writing feature stories about the residents.
Borde states: “Since relocating to South Dakota in April I have enjoyed visiting with individuals in the community. I look forward to hearing the stories, the opinions and the insights the residents of Edgemont have to offer.”
While Borde has previously not written for a newspaper, he does have several years of newspaper experience through his career as a graphics and prepress technician where he helped editors and publishers with their print needs including edits, photo retouch, pagination and platemaking.
He was also an owner of a graphics design business. In 2005 Borde was brought on board to design and digitally color “Gumby” comics for publisher Wildcard Ink and editor Mel Smith. The comic book series went on to win industry Eisner awards for “Best Publication for a Young Audience” and “Best Humor Writer (Bob Burden)” in 2007. The success of Gumby allowed Borde to launch a full service art and graphic design service. During this period of his life he produced graphics for an array of customers and their job needs including the “Jobs That Rock” career educational books for children published by Rourke Publishing Borde welcomes story ideas from the community of Edgemont and can be contacted at: edgemont@lanceborde.net
