HOT SPRINGS – The Can Man Trade Scholarship Fund, in memory of Roger Klein, recently announced another big winner in its Jack of Hearts contest.

Justice Graham turned over the Jack of Hearts on January 23 and took home half the pot, which was at $15,212 by the end of the evening; this was the second largest pot since the game began in 2021.

Graham received a check for $7,606; the scholarship fund grew by $6,085 (40%), and when the game starts over, some time in March, it will open with a $1,521 Pot (10%). So, even if there is a winner the first week, that winner will receive a nice chunk of change.

The three board members who make up the Jack of Hearts committee were delighted with the win.

“Another good person won,” said board treasurer Tom Merrill, “someone who could make good use of the winnings, all thanks to the generosity of this community.”

“Thanks to everyone for making the game fun and for supporting our cause year after year,” said board member Donna Merrill.

“And thank you all for keeping Roger alive in our hearts,” added Jacki Lockwood.

Whether a tourist passing through town, a local who stops in now and then, or the core group of Tuesday night regulars, every dollar spent on a Jack of Hearts ticket furthers the Can Man Fund’s ability to give out meaningful scholarships to students pursuing trade certifications or degrees.

Board President Dusty Pence offered her personal thanks to the team that organizes the game every Tuesday—Jacki, Tom and Donna—and everyone expressed special gratitude to the volunteers who help the team on Tuesday evenings, especially Barb Collignon, Irene Alexiou and Bo Bradley. One and all offer their gratitude to the owners and staff at Winner’s Circle for taking a chance on the Jack of Hearts game and supporting it for all these years.

The Jack of Hearts team will take a much-needed break and return with a brand new deck of cards some time in March. Keep an eye on the Facebook page or Community Happenings in the Fall River Herald for notice when the new game gets going. This time, there will be a fun new “I lost at Jack of Hearts” token for those players who win the weekly draw but don’t turn the Jack of Hearts.
